Launceston Development XV 0

Camborne 20

CAMBORNE closed the gap on league leaders Launceston to just three points after putting in a convincing display at the hosts’ Polson Bridge ground.

The injury-hit visitors went into the match with no fewer than 12 of their squad injured or unavailable, making the result even more remarkable considering Launceston had won all previous seven league fixtures.

The Cherry and Whites, as they are known, led by a narrow margin at the interval with a penalty slotted by fly-half Matt Downing.

They went up a gear after the break and scored three tries with a brace from lock Olly Reynolds and another from flanker Nick Wellstead.

Veteran Downing added a conversion to wrap things up and close the gap at the top of the table, now level on points with second place Redruth, and three points behind the league leaders Launceston, who will hope to get back to winning ways this weekend when they travel to fourth place St Austell.
