Old Albanian 90

Cornish All Blacks 3

Woollams Playing Fields

THERE was to be no end-of-season surprise at the blustery Hertfordshire ground on Saturday as the hapless visitors were on the end of a 90-3 drubbing, probably, given the sad circumstances of their season, not much less than was expected.

That said it was not all doom and gloom for this plucky Launceston outfit who, through all adversity, have held together as a credible team all year.

On this last day of the season it was obvious to dispassionate observers that the visitors lacked no spirit and, with ball in hand, could craft gaps in the miserly Albanian defence from time to time.

Perhaps support achieved swiftly and with purpose would have made further dents but such was not to be on the day.

There was nothing wrong with the Cornish scrum or lineout as many of their opponents next season will discover and perhaps the lesser pressure in level five will allow this young team to find their feet again.

They posed sufficient questions around the field for high-flying Albanians for much of the afternoon.

A general injection of pace and a tightening up of technique will occupy the Launceston management during the close season. Cornish pride will demand this and look forward to happier times.
