Tribute Cornwall Two
Redruth Albany 10
Camelford 38
FOLLOWING the decimation to the rugby calendar caused by ‘the Beast from the East’, it was Camelford who created ‘the perfect storm’ as they won 38-10 at Redruth Albany last Saturday.
The visit to Albany was expected to be a hard game for Camelford who had not played for three weeks due to weather and injuries. Albany were intent on preventing the visitors from doing the double and signs were ominous in the first two minutes when they scored through.
Fortunately Camelford responded swiftly driving Albany back to their own line and some excellent mauling and rucking resulted in Camelford’s first score dotted down by Dan Yeatman. This also went unconverted, meaning it was 5-5.
With some brilliant forward domination at the set pieces and excellent work from Luke Plummer and Yeatman in the back-row Camelford got a grip and whipped up the perfect storm to score three more times before the break, thanks to tries from Matt Dyson, Luke Plummer and Mike Wilshire.
In the second period Albany were able to create more pressure and fought back well.
However, Camelford’s pack were having none of it as Luke Plummer, home from fish care on the Isle of Mull, led the way by disrupting all of Albany’s attempts to get sustainable possession. He added a second try of the afternoon soon after the break.
This sparked a mini revival from the determined Albany and forced ‘the Ford’ into a few moments of unnecessary despair and indiscipline.
With 15 minutes left on the clock, Yeatman was sent to the sin-bin and the hosts utilised the extra space to score out wide.
Fortunately Camelford rallied again and sealed the result with an excellent passage of play. A tremendous ruck freed the ball for Dyson to complete a wrap around with Wilshire and score a try which he also converted.
Camelford will look to make it back-to-back victories when they entertain mid-table Stithians.
