LAUNCESTON Rugby Club’s Minis and Juniors section have created a bit of club history by handing out cheques for £250 to three former players towards their travelling expenses.

Chae Jenkins, Joe Vanstone and Chloe Dawe have all gone onto higher honours in recent times.

Jenkins, who comes from Bude, can play at loosehead or tighthead prop, attends Truro and Penwith College, plays for Cornwall under 18s and also is in the Exeter Chiefs Academy, and still turns out for the Colts team when he can.

Later this year, he and Vanstone will tour Canada with Truro College and was delighted with the cheque, saying: “I am very grateful towards Launceston’s Minis and Juniors’ kind donation towards my rugby tour and would like to thank them for their ongoing support.”

Vanstone is Launceston through and through.

He first joined the minis as a seven-year-old and has worked his way through the club ranks to represent Cornwall for the last couple of years and is now a member of the Colts squad.

A skilful back who can play both at centre or on the wing, Vanstone hopes to eventually make his way into the first team.

He added:?“I feel privileged to have been given money from a club I have spent my entire life at. Being selected for the Canada tour was a huge moment for me and I feel that the club has helped me, Chae and Chloe to get to where we have.

“I really hope to play down at Polson?Bridge for many more years and break into the first team squad in the near future. I can’t thank the club enough.”

Dawe is in the the England under 18s Talent Development Group squad while she also turns out for Devon and Devonport Services at under 18 level.

Dawe was also delighted with the cheque, saying: “I’m very thankful to to the Launceston Minis and Juniors for the donation. This will help towards travelling fees and accomodation.”

Vice-chairman Peter Sandercock believes that the generosity was the club’s way of saying thanks to them for staying loyal to them.

Sandercock said: “It’s the first time we’ve ever done it. It’s our way of showing them that as a club we’re behind them all the way. It’s a big commitment for players and coaches to stay with us for all that time so we wanted to show our appreciation to them.

“All three of them have alot of talent and I think that they can go really far in the game.”
