THE Shebbear College under 16 rugby team won the North Devon Schools 15-a-side tournament last Wednesday at West?Buckland School.
The side looked strong from the start in their opening game against Pilton which they won 19-0 before dispatching both Kingsley (35-0) and Braunton (24-0) in their other group games to make it three wins from three ahead of the semi-finals.
In the last four, Shebbear played the runners-up from the other group, West Buckland, and eased to a 24-5 victory, the first time in the tournament that they had let in a try.
The final was against a strong South Molton side who had comfortably won their group. But the team were too strong and strolled to a 19-0 win.
Over the course of the day, Shebbear scored 19 tries from just five games while conceding just a solitary score while the player of the tournament award was split between Eddie Jones, Charlie Short and Fynn Walker.
The Shebbear squad was Charlie Short, James Law, Will Blee, Matt Edge, James Edge, Alex Watling, Fynn Walker, Sione Funaki, Jason Man, Alessandro Aliberti, Will Cowan-Dickie, Eddie Jones, Stuart Williams, Zoltan Wagner, Revel Groom and Buddy Wahl.
