LAUNCESTON Rugby Club legend Crispin Earle has issued a letter of thanks in his battle against prostate cancer and is urging players and supporters to come along to Polson Bridge on Saturday.
Crispin is an indespensable club volunteer — spending hour after hour at the club.
Among his many roles are being the club kitman and groundsman.
He says: “Firstly, I thank all the players, supporters, friends and Launceston people for their support. I know I am not the only one who has cancer, but I went on the idea that talking about it, would help other people, especially men, to go and get checked and also that you don’t have to suffer in silence. Again, from myself and wife Paula, thanks.
“Launceston Rugby Club has done a marvellous job in supporting the various cancer appeals. They have raised over £800 by selling raffle tickets for the Virgin Hot Air Balloon Ride and many thanks to Tesco for allowing us to collect on two Sundays. We also have sold a load of the boys’ rugby calendar, as well as donations to the Movember appeal where the players grew their moustaches in November. It all adds up.
“We are trying to arrange another fixture but will have a game, even if it is between all players of the club. Keep an eye on the club’s website. Entry is free but donations to the cancer charities would be appreciated. Tickets for the raffle will be on sale at £1 a strip.
“Besides the Virgin Hot Air Balloon ride, there will be other prizes of donations from Philip Warrens, Maunders, Lifton Strawberry Fields, Rocks Locks, Cornish Cheese Co., David Parish, also from individuals at the club and in town.
“Come and watch the game, have a drink and a plate of chips, and it may be you who floats away for the day in the summer!”
