CAMELFORD Rugby Club head into their ninth season full of hope, despite the new league structure that will test the club to its limit.
The new Cornwall League for 2016/17 will follow a structure where the season will be divided into two sections.
Before Christmas, all Cornwall Division One and Division Two teams will compete to see which division they will be in after Christmas. This gives all the clubs more fixtures and greater challenges, as Camelford will now face the teams who were top of Division One and were relegated from the Devon and Cornwall League.
The new league structure will be challenging for many clubs, not just Camelford, as an increased fixture list will stretch resources.
The Ford are building for this challenge and have been in training since Tuesday, July 5 with an excellent turnout.
As with all clubs at this time of the season, Camelford are keen to recruit and strengthen their squad, despite an ever dwindling supply.
But following last season’s solid campaign which saw Camelford, start excellently, before falling away after Christmas, to miss out on promotion, the Lane End outfit are confident of more of the same.
Camelford’s Director of Rugby, Wayne Roberts and his assistant, Luke Palmer, are confident that the challenges ahead will be met full on to show just how the club has progressed.
Work is currently being undertaken on the pitch and the club is actively seeking sponsorship to help develop changing and training facilities.
The club’s committee works hard to create the best possible club for Camelford with the intent of making them the choice for all those interested in the game in the local area.
The club hope to be able to make use of some of the up and coming youngsters who have played some good rugby while at Sir James Smith’s School, while a number of school leavers are being encouraged to attend training and prepare for the challenges of adult rugby.
It is also a hope that Camelford will soon see a junior section develop and they are seeking willing volunteers/parents to enable this to become sustainable. Currently the club runs one men’s adult team but would love to be able to move forward and have a ladies and juniors section.
Situated in a small town, Camelford are on the lookout for support from the extended community as they need to recruit players and volunteers.
Spectators are always welcome at the Lane End ground, which is situated near the football club and the Victoria Gardens estate.
Training takes place on Tuesday evenings at the ground starting around 6.30pm.
Players of all age and experience will be welcomed with a big smile and a friendly hand. If you would like to give the club a hand please take the first step and attend training. Alternatively phone 07725 801331 for more information or visit www.pitchero.com/clubs/camelfordrugbyfootballclub
