CAMELFORD Rugby Club will celebrate the end of their tenth year by holding their Presidents Day at Lane End on Sunday.
Over the 2018/19 season, which saw them compete in Tribute Cornwall Two as well as cup competitions, there have been a number of events which have celebrated this achievement.
However, on Sunday a current Camelford team will face a President’s select team drawn from a number of clubs in Cornwall, past players who we have been dragged back to play; and even a player from Kings Norton RFC in the Midlands.
The game will kick-off at 2pm and club president Nic Osborne can’t wait.
He said: “We are all looking forward to a Barbarian style run around. The President’s squad will be captained by Camelford’s first captain, Jon Ponting, as he squeezes into his crusty old boots to make an appearance. Hopefully the town’s folk and our old players will show their faces to support our little club as we cap off the tenth anniversary.
“This will also be the final game at the current Lane End field as we are on the move, again. A barbeque will be serving refreshments at the pitch and we are hoping for some decent early summer weather. Mind you, if it is lashing down the players will still be playing with the Barbarian spirit.
“We have secured a longer lease on a field just up the road, thereby staying in our home town. “Having a longer-term lease may be an opening for us to be able to access more financial support for our venture to make the club the one of first choice for all rugby enthusiasts in this enclave of North Cornwall.”
The club’s annual awards dinner will take place at the Bowood Hotel on Friday, May 17.
