AFTER three weeks of cancellations and no games, Camelford finally return to action for the first time since a friendly against Bodmin seconds on February 23 this Saturday when they welcome Perranporth to Lane End in the Tribute Cornwall Clubs Vase.
As a result of finishing fourth in the six-team Tribute Cornwall Two, ‘the Ford’ find themselves up against Perranporth and St Just with each side playing each other once for the right to compete in the final next month.
Club captain, Martyn Baker, expects the North Cornwall side to rise to the challenge.
He said: “From the beginning of the season we have targeted this competition as one we wanted to do well in, and we expect to make a good showing over the next two games.
“By the end of the league season we had picked up a few injuries and it was hoped they would recover. Unfortunately, we will be without hooker Luke Schofield through injury, Ian Burnard through unavailability meaning that a front row shuffle is required.
Elsewhere we welcome back Ollie Plummer from illness and stalwart Rob Hawken for his last games of rugby before forced retirement and there’s also the highly-anticipated competitive debut of Alex Ferguson.”
Perranporth eased to victory in both league encounters this term and Baker knows they’re in for a tough test.
He said: “Perranporth are difficult team. They play a well-structured game and are difficult to break down so we expect a hard thought match. But I’m sure we are up to the challenge facing us.”
Camelford are away at St Just next weekend before the West Cornwall club travel to Perranporth seven days later.
The final, which is one of four, will be played at a venue yet to be announced on Easter Saturday (April 20).
