Perranporth 40

CAMELFORD fell to their fourth successive defeat as Perranporth left North Cornwall with a 40-16 win.

On a wet and windy afternoon, Camelford had added bonus of wearing the new kit emblazoned with the name of the late and much-loved Nic Osborne on their arm.

Camelford started the game in the same vain as England had done a few hours earlier when full-back Tom Sandercock kicked the ball through the defence and was able to re-gather the ball to dot down out wide, Dan Stuckey missed with the conversion.

Perranporth were rattled and started pressuring the Camelford defence but the hosts held strong.

A missed penalty was from Perranporth gave Camelford the ball and another attack loomed and Camelford kept the pressure on their opponents but only came away with a Sandercock penalty on 25 minutes to make it 8-0.

Over the rest of the half Perranporth stirred there attacking prowess and scored two tries to make the score 14-8 for Perranporth.

A few changes were made in the Camelford ranks at half-time, the most notable being Luke Schofield at hooker with Martyn Baker moving from hooker to loosehead-prop. This didn’t seem to change the way of the scrums as Camelford dominated this area for the entire match.

Perranporth started the half fast and hard and managed to rack up another three converted tries over the course of half an hour to make it 35-8.

Camelford rallied and well worked scrum led to a few strong forward advances culminating in a pushover try for lock Steve Knight.

This rest of the half was a full on battle with Perranporth adding another score to take their points tally to 40 and Camelford having a try disallowed through scrum-half Mike Willshire.

A consolation penalty from Sandercock ensured the home side grabbed the last score.
