Women’s NC 2 South West (West)
Withycombe Ladies 0
Bude 34
BUDE Ladies got their league campaign back on track on Sunday with a convincing 34-0 victory at fellow mid-table side Withycombe.
On a drying heavy pitch, the Cornish side played up the slope into the wind in the first-half, and from the off they got into their stride, putting together long phases of play, good work rates on and off the ball, full-back Frankie Perry found herself in space on the left-wing from the pack hammering Withycombe’s defensive line in their 22. Good hands from the backs getting her the first of her four tries in the half. Scrum-half Lisa Honey slotted two conversions through the sticks.
The East Devon outfit had a good 15-minute spell up to the break as they attacked in Bude’s 22, but were unable to turn this into points with Tia Larson and Honey holding them up. Turnover ball led to honey clearing her lines and the score was 24-0.
Withycombe didn’t lie down and had a bit more grit about them in the second-half, repelling the forwards’ pick and go ball. However, this led to some more excellent handling from the backs and nifty footwork from Jess Martyn to score her maiden try. A quickly taken penalty by Larson got Mel Ruby on the charge for Bude’s final try.
Rachel Shackleton and Holly Stephenson were named as Bude’s forward-of-the-match and back-of-the-match respectively.
