Tribute Cornwall and Devon League
Bude 40
Saltash 20
JOE Wilson and Angus Hodges both scored a brace as Bude ended their home fixtures for the season with a resounding victory over promoted Saltash at Bencoolen Meadow.
Bude have been in fine form in recent weeks and led 14-8 at the break thanks to tries from Hodges and Wilson before they ran riot in the second-half with tries from Adam Black, Olly Denford, Wilson and Hodges, the latter after Saltash scored a couple of quick tries after utilising their forwards.
Talking after the game, Hodges was delighted with his side’s performance.
He said: “It was a great performance against a really good team.
“Although they were supposedly short because they were resting a few for their Twickenham cup final in a few weeks.
“The win puts us in a good place in the league.
“We had a really good support from the crowd and to play some really exciting, attractive rugby was the icing on the cake.
“Before this season Bude were known as a very forward-orientated team, but it’s really nice to play some fluid rugby through the backs and turn ourselves into a good all-round team which shows progression.”
Hodges was especially looking forward to this coming weekened when they make the long trip down to Pirates Amateurs in their final game of the season.
He said: “We’ve got a bus to go down there and that seems to have motivated everyone to play.
“It’ll be great to end the season with a win and put in a good performance and then enjoy ourselves on the way home. That’s the plan anyway.”
