Cornwall and Devon League

Plymstock Albion Oaks 15

Bude 17

Horsham Playing Fields, Wembury Rd

BUDE secured the league title with the last kick of the game despite an impressive challenge from their fourth placed opponents.

The Cornish visitors knew a point or more would ensure they finished the season on top of the table and started brightly with a try from Duncan Tout.

The hosts levelled the scores as flanker Kirk Tunnicliffe marked his last game for the club with a try, converted by Richard West.

Oaks, who have had an impressive first season at this level, went out in front with a try from Dave Byng and although West missed the conversion he kicked a drop goal which extended his side’s lead.

Bude reduced the deficit with another try from Tout. Dan Pearce converted that effort.

With time running out, and it looking like Bude were going to see their unbeaten record for 2016 broken, up stepped Pearce and with the last kick of the game knocked over a penalty kick to take the win and with it the league title.

Bude will now compete in the Tribute Western Counties West League for the 2016/17 season.
