Bury St Edmunds 79

CORNISH All Blacks suffered their worst home defeat for the season on Saturday, losing 79 nil to Bury St Edmunds.

A strong Bury pack that was fast paced and well organised, scuppered any hopes of a win for the All Blacks, with the visitors notching up twelve tries and a penalty try.

The Cornish All Blacks had a couple of opportunities in the first half, but they were simply outplayed.

The Launceston side was missing a number of key players, such as Ben Hilton, Robbie Dugard, Lloyd Duke and skipper Richard Friend, and as a result, the team was made up of mostly fringe and 2nd XV players. Putting some of them up an experienced Bury side was definitely a baptism of fire for some of them.

The Bury squad spread the ball wide and dodged most of the tackles that came their way.

However, the home side put their all into the game, knowing at the back of their minds that they face relegation at the end of the season.

Bury St Edmunds scored their first try merely two minutes in, when Sean Stapleton went over. The team followed that with five more in the first half - with tries from Makulusio Koroiyadi, Matthew Edison, Joseph Lawson, Shaquille Mayer and Christopher Snelling.

There was more fight in the Cornish All Blacks in the second half. Although they had less possession of the ball, they seemed more focussed and driven.

Even so, there was no contest. Bury made it look easy. Six more tries followed — one from Christopher Lord, two more from Edison, another for Lawson and one for Joshua Walker. A penalty try, awarded by referee David Clarkson, completed the whitewash.
