WITH just over six weeks to go until the start of the Cornish All Blacks’ 2016/17 league campaign, preparations are already well under way at Polson?Bridge.
Following last season’s disastrous campaign which saw Launceston relegated from National League Two South without winning a game, things are looking much brighter on and off the field.
On the pitch, the first team are already a couple of weeks into their pre-season schedule, working extremely hard under the stewardship of director of rugby, Jimmy Tucker and his coaches, Brett Luxton (forwards coach) and Ryan Westren (backs coach) to ensure at the very least a solid mid-table finish in a division which shall see them line up against the likes of West Country rivals Camborne, Brixham, Newton Abbot and Ivybridge.
But there is plenty of work going on further down the club. As usual the brilliant band of volunteers are working hard behind the scenes. Last Saturday (July 16), members of the Mini/Juniors took part in a paint and clean of the clubhouse.
One of the helpers, Peter Sandercock, said: “The clubhouse needed a bit of a clean up ready to welcome opposing teams and guests for the coming season.”
However there is one pending issue. Following the first team’s relegation, the club has to provide a team linesman for both home and away games. Despite some offers, the club are hoping to find someone who is available for the whole season. Transport will be provided and covered for just like the players while a suitable kit will come with it too. If you feel like you would be interested in the role then please contact secretary Simon Johnston on 07799478715 or Crispin Earle on 07885904623.
