AFTER a winter of circuit training and rowing machine sessions, Rock Rowing Club’s women had a successful time at The 29th annual World Pilot Gig Championships on the Isles of Scilly over the Bank Holiday weekend at the start of the month.
The Ladies Supervets, in their gig named Swift, won silver in their race on the Friday evening, battling with the winners Kensa right to the line.
The Ladies A team lined up with 115 other boats on Saturday morning finishing 10th in Group B and 22nd overall in the championships.
As ever it was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend for everyone, with a club spokesperson stating: “The gig championship on the Isles of Scilly is such a special event where the whole gig community gets together for three days, catching up with friends old and new.
“Nothing can beat the start of the long race on the Saturday when over 115 boats line up on the mile-long start line and the noise of oars on pins is spine tingling when the race starts.”
