ALEX Quinn, a 13-year-old pupil at Sir James Smiths School, Camelford, is rejoicing after winning the two finals in round two of the Super One British Karting Championships in Kent. The triumphant success of his winning both of the 15 minute finals in the karting class for 11 to 17-year-olds resulted in Alex climbing the championship leaderboard to second place. Disaster struck in the first round of the championship, held in the Lake District last month, when another competitor shunted into Alex, triggering a further incident on the last remaining corners of the last lap, when Alex was pushing for second place. A judicial hearing followed, but there was not enough conclusive evidence to bring a penalty against the other driver and a racing incident was declared. Alex finished in 11th place overall.
