PORT Isaac Gig Rowing Club celebrated St Piran’s day in style in the Three River’s Race at Saltash, marking the first event in the rowing calendar.

The annual race covers five miles, taking in the iconic Tamar Bridge and estuary and the three rivers; Tamar, Tavy and Lynher. The race is particularly important as it will be the only chance many of the top crews will get to see their rivals before the World Championships in Scilly at the end of April.

This year over 80 gigs entered, with races split between the men’s and women’s; making an incredible spectacle for what was a grueling race in freezing high winds and running tide, making for some interesting water.

Port Isaac men’s did particularly well, with Bacchante pushing Roscarrock all the way to a decent time.

This year is particularly special to Port Isaac Rowing Club who celebrate their 25th anniversary. They will be holding many exciting events this year, including the rededication of Corsair on Sunday April 17 at 12.30pm at The Platt in Port Isaac.

The club will also be holding a Pisces exhibition at St Peter’s Church and would like to ask if anybody has any historical photos of Port Isaac or the club itself. A spokesperson said: “We would love to share them in the exhibition. Please contact our chairman Ed Fishlock at [email protected], if you would like to include your images.”
