THIRTY-four members of Bude Bridge Club took part in the English Bridge Union (EBU) National Spring Pairs against clubs from all over the country. Bude members filled three of the top 100 places nationally – Alan Biggs and Ian Edwards (21st), Chris Nichols and Jane Koldewey (44th) and Sarah and Neil Trenaman (98th). Several club members are in the EBU Royalty list, joined this month by Jane Koldewey. The first competition of the year, the June Justice Individual Bowl, resulted in a convincing win by Alan Merchant-White, followed by Jenny Tregarthen, Roger Alway and Jane Koldewey. Charles and Steven Clifton chalked up an amazing 77% on June 6th, the third highest percentage in the club's recorded history. Other winners this month were Mike Newman and Sheila Teale (both twice), Jane Koldewey, Chris Nichols, Jenny Tregarthen, Mary Hicks, Jacqueline Russell, Linda Ashworth and Micheline and Stephen Smith, the club's most improved partnership of the year.
