CLUB members took part in two competitions during July. At the beginning of the month the Christine Carey Trophy was won by Jane Koldewey and Chris Nichols with Alan Biggs and Ian Edwards in second position. At the end of the month the Mix and Match competition for Stratton Hospital was won by Fiona Hargeaves and Jenny Tregarthen with Stephen Smith and Mike Brookes as runners up. There were some outstanding individual performances on normal club nights during the month. None more so than by Steven Clifton who came top with four different partners. His brother Charles, David Clarke, Linda Ashworth and Sarah Trenaman with whom he was playing for the first time. Sarah also enjoyed a succesful month as she came top with her husband Neil on two occasions as well. Other winning partnerships during the month were Alan Biggs and Ian Edwards, Alan Biggs and Rob Mabley, Jane Koldewey and Chris Nichols. Several members took part in Bude Heritage Day at the Parkhouse Centre on July 26, taking it in turns to play bridge for five hours, with also someone on hand to talk to anyone interested in the game. The exhibition stand attracted considerable attention, not only from newcomers to the game of bridge but also rubber bridge players who may wish to try duplicate bridge in a friendly competitive environment.
