CONCERNS youngsters are prioritising electronic entertainment over sport have been aired by the Chairman of Delabole Cricket Club, in the midst of a season which has seen a drop in playing attendance. Mr Colin Burrell, who is also the Chairman of the Duchy Football League, was watching Delabole take on Saltash's second team in a Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Cricket League Division Five clash on Saturday when he said sport appeared to be suffering in the area, despite more opportunities than ever for people to get involved. Delabole have often struggled to raise a full side this campaign, and have played matches with only nine or ten players in some instances. Aware that other teams are also struggling, he said: "There is a realisation that todays youngsters have a lot more activities, but the worry is that they will be lost to sport. It does not help that some schools put sport right at the bottom of the curriculum, especially in rural areas. "Surely it would be better for these youngsters to be playing a sport in the open air, rather than be stuck in their bedrooms playing on some electronic device?"
