Bude Bridge Club monthly report

JANUARY was a very successful month for club veteran Chris Nichols.

He was a winner on no fewer than seven occasions, with four different partners, twice with new member Jonathan Ball.

Also racking up a pair of wins with Nichols was Steven Clifton, and, winning two major tournaments, Jane Koldewey joined Chris in winning the local heat of the national EBU Winter Pairs and also the Club Championship Teams in conjunction with Neil and Sarah Trenaman. Chris also came top with Linda Ashworth.

Other winners in January were Maureen Fallows twice, with Fiona Hargreaves and Alison Osborne, Mary Hicks twice, with James Sim and Linda Ashworth, Veronica Chouffot and Chris Skipp and Alan Biggs and Bill Thomson. Linda’s third win of the month came with Paul Creighton in winning the Mix and Match Trophy.

Special mention must be made of the excellent result by Jean and Michael Brookes in the EBU Winter Pairs. Coming second in the club with over 60%, they racked up a superb 133 masterpoints.

The club was saddened to hear of the passing of Beryl Mardon, a regular member on Wednesday afternoons and an astute card player.
