BUDE bounced back from last week’s 4-1 defeat at Sidmouth and Ottery by edging a ten-goal thriller with Camborne School of Mines at Budehaven School.
The North Cornwall side seemed to have learned from the mistakes of last week and raced into a well deserved 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Conor Bickle and Thomas Hall, and also created a number of other chances, including a disallowed goal for obstruction.
Camborne rallied and gained a number of short corners where they eventually scored by firing a shot low into the corner. Bude continued to play well and create further chances and went 4-1 up thanks to a brace from 15-year-old Timon Chapman. One of his goals saw Chapman run down the left, round the goalkeeper and deftly slot the ball home with a one-handed reverse shot. Bude lapsed in concentration in the last 30 seconds of the first-half and allowed Camborne a glimmer of hope after failing to clear a cross, which was flicked into the back of the net.
The second period continued in a similar vein, with Bude scoring a fifth through captain of the day Paul Floyd and creating a number of other chances.
However, Camborne never gave up and made it by interesting by pulling it back to 5-3.
A steller debut performance by Robin Jennings with multiple goal saving challenges and clearances, meant Bude remained solid at the back and were able to push on and get a sixth goal through Bickle’s second of the afternoon.
Camborne had the last say with a soft goal going in with the very last touch of the game.
