A SELECTION of Murcia's finest golfers were unable to overcome Trethorne in the latest leg of a competition spanning 20 years. Organised by Robin Reip and Murcia Golf Federation Chairman 'Pepe' Jover, the Ryder Cup format contest sees the winners take hold of a genuine Cornish miner's lamp — greatly admired, not least for its emotional attachment to the mining region of Murcia. This year's event was held at three different courses — the first being a foursome played in high winds and constant downpours at Borringdon Golf Club. It was a very tough introduction to the Westcountry for the Spanish team, but they took it in their stride without complaint.
