LUCKETT have won the 2015/16 Launceston and District Snooker League title.
For the first time in the league’s history all eleven teams played in one division on a handicap basis. This resulted in a much more exciting league with a level playing field for all teams concerned, with only two teams not adapting to the system. So with only a few weeks to go the championship was wide open and it wasn’t until the final week that Luckett secured the three points needed to win at Colin Park B on the final frame of the night.
Calstock F (Div One winners 2013/14) who only had a plus four handicap were worthy runners up.
Simon Berriman of Luckett was crowned singles champion after beating Andrew Simpson (Colin Park B) 3 - 1 in the final.
Stoke Climsland pair Mick Gorman and Ken Neal defeated Geoff Howlett and Ivan Judd (Luckett) in the doubles final.
Calstock F won the Team Knockout Cup beating Stoke Climsland by the smallest of margins by three frames to two. Unfortunately for Stoke they couldn’t raise a full team and forfeited the last frame.
Adam Pengelly of Lifton made the highest break of the year with 43. The second biggest (42) came from Andrew Simpson (Colin Park B). Monthly breaks were awarded to Mike Vanstone of Lifton (33), Matt Eales of Colin Park A (35 and 32), Aiden Livingston of Kelly Bray (28) and Robert Bakewell of Colin Park A (33).
James Reddicliffe (Bere Alston) had the most wins for the season 17 (out of 19), whilst Andrew Williams (Luckett) won 16 and lost just the once.
Luckett were the eventual winners of the Ken Allen Memorial Trophy.
In a challenge match on finals night the league champions took on a ‘Pick of the League’ team with Luckett emerging 3-2 winners.
The league chairman, Andrew Williams, expressed his thanks to Calstock for hosting the finals and presentation evening held on Saturday, April 9, and to the ladies for the superb buffet before the league’s chairman, John Andrew, then presented the trophies.
