TEN ladies from Launceston and the surrounding area are cycling the Prudential Ride 100 Cyclo Sportive on Sunday, August 2, to raise money for Spinal Research, Aspire, and Pancreatic Cancer.
Victoria Harrison, Lorna Kendall, Claire Fry, Kelly Angel, Sandra Anstey, Liz Chudleigh, Vicky Chudleigh-Emson, Tammy Molesworth, Jo Weight, Sharon Neale and Sophie King are all members of The Widger Spoke-Easies, a local community cycling group set up by Tammy in 2013.
Tammy said: "I started cycling three years ago for health reasons and became acutely aware that the cycling industry is mainly geared towards chaps.
"I registered for a training course through British Cycling called The Breeze Network to lead free, fun rides for women locally, and the local facebook group The Widger Spoke-Easies was born.
"They've come so far in such a short period of time; supporting and encouraging each other and gaining confidence on their road bikes."
The cycle group welcomes women of all ages, ability and fitness to start cycling, on any kind of bike.
Group member Victoria Harrison said: "We ride all around Lifton, Launceston and Tavistock. Sometimes it's five or six miles and other times it's almost 100!"
The Prudential Ride 100 is coming up a week on Sunday where the ladies will be joining 26,000 other cyclists.
The ladies have raised in excess of £2,000 for their respective charities so far and they are hosting a jumble and cake sale at The Arundell Arms in Lifton this Saturday, July 25, between 10am and 1pm and they welcome everybody to go along.
