DRIVERS from the Post area gave two Yorkshire competitors a good run for their money at the Launceston and North Cornwall Motor Club Sporting Trial held at Marshgate on Sunday, September 15.
The MSA and BTRDA National Championship event is part of the Cornish Trials weekend.
While the entry was relatively low, it included Roland Uglow from Delabole, the current British chamption.
There was a mixture of grass and woodland over 24 hills on steep and slippery ground.
Low scores were the order of the day with Richard Sharp and Simon Kingsley (both from Yorkshire) battling throughout the competition with Sharp being the eventual winner by a single point. Despite having led at lunchtime, Callington’s Colin Flashman finished third, a further point behind but took away the blue class award. Uglow was fourth, after a drive shaft problem cost him valuable points.
The club’s next trial is another national championship event: the Tamar Classic Road Trial for cars and bikes on Sunday, October 20.
Details will be available at www.lncmc.co.uk and a large number of marshals will be needed to run the event while volunteers would be very welcome.
In 2020, the club celebrates its 100th anniversary and would be interested to hear from readers who have artefacts associated with the club, particularly pre-1960 items, suitable for a museum display next summer.
