ANOTHER successful season for The Bude and District Winter Pool League has come to an end.

In Division One, it was Brendon who won the league with 131 points and making an immediate return to the Premier League that they were relegated from last season, Bullers Boozers were runners-up as they finished just five points adrift.

The division’s MVP award went to Hadley Alexander who won 36 out of 45 frames (80%).

LK Galacticos walked away with the top prize in the Premier League as they finished 16 points ahead of their nearest rivals LK Sharp Shooters, who themselves had a remarkable finish to the season.

They stole the runners-up spot from last season’s champions New Inn A and also landed the Consolation Cup trophy.

The Galacticos did the league and cup double as they comfortably beat LK Suicide Squad in the Heaverman Cup final by eight frames to two.

Their cause in both competitions were helped by Tony Holgate, who won 39 off his 45 frames to take the MVP award.

The Handicap Knockout Team Cup was played for the third season in succession and went to LK Suicide Squad who came out victorious against LK Rack Em Up in the final, winning 11-8.

In the Handicapped Singles Knockout it was Lee Thomas who beat Jase Winser in the final 5-4 and collected his first trophy in his first season in Bude.

The finals night and presentation evening on Sunday, June 3 was well attended with various competitions happening over the course of the evening.

In the Division One Scotch Doubles final, Phil Amos-Yeo and Ben Sturgeon retained their doubles trophy against Brendon’s Olivier Le Pimpec and Trev Plant. The Premier Leagues doubles was postponed due to a player’s illness and is still to be rescheduled.

The veteran Colin Eckersley overcame a tough Olivier Le Pimpec to claim the Division One Singles trophy while in the the main event, the Premier League Singles final between Tony Holgate and Jason Winser, saw an in-form Holgate cruise to the champions trophy with a 4-0 victory.

The single frame ‘House Championship’ final was played by two league newbies as Stuart Reardon overcame a tough Lee West to take the coveted award although maybe West was tired in the House KO to beat Reardon due him running round the table and winning the night’s popular speed pool competition final with Winser again finishing up with a runners-up medal.

During the presentation it was mentioned over Christmas that the league held a charity pool night where over £70 was raised for ‘Light Up Bude’ and the competition saw Holgate beat Gary Hodgson 3-2 in the final of a very friendly evening. Thanks were expressed to North Coast Wines, Rosies and Morrisons for their kind donations.

League secretary, Gary Hodgson, said: “Thanks to everyone who’s been involved this season, thanks to league sponsors Plumbase, hope you’ve all enjoyed it and hope to see you all next season.

“This coming season’s AGM will be sometime in August. We welcome new teams and new pubs to join our Sunday league. Please visit our Facebook page and get in touch if you’d like to enter a team next season.”
