LAUNCESTON Under 12s girls hockey team became county champions in the West In2Hockey tournament at Truro’s Penair School on Sunday, March 10.

This was in addition to them already having won the Cornwall Hockey Association Under 12s League over four weekend tournaments in February, which was achieved with an impressive record of 11 wins and one draw.

At the national tournament qualifier, they emphatically won all five games against Truro, Bodmin, Penzance, Bude and Caradon, scoring some ten goals and conceding none.

They will now go on to represent Cornwall in the regional finals to be held in late April in Bristol, and if they do well there, will then go on to the England national tournament later in the year.

Head coach, Andy Berry, said: “This group of girls are an amazing bunch with some real talent in the team. They have beaten every team in Cornwall since September 2018 and I put this down to their commitment and hard work at training every Wednesday night at Launceston College’s muga pitch and their great team spirit on the pitch. I am extremely proud of them and I can’t wait for the regionals.”
