SEVEN members of Launceston Tae Kwon-Do competed at the Southern Championships in Paignton on Saturday, October 6 with three members winning medals.

Tom Simpkins-Wright earned a bronze in the boys heavyweight sparring, Lowenna Barnes won silver in the red belt girls sparring while John Titley, achieved a brilliant gold medal in the men’s blue belt patterns as well as competing in the men’s heavyweight sparring.

Other competitors were James Naylor (2nd Dan and above black belt patterns), Nadine Wright, who came fourth in the girl’s red belt patterns, made her sparring debut and linked up with Barnes in the girls tag team sparring.

Mathilda Matthews (girls yellow belt patterns) and Leland Hardy (boys yellow belt patterns) competed in their very first competition and represented the club well.

A club spokesperson said: “Thanks to all the other members and family who came along in support and especially to instructor Paul Bunn for his excellent teaching which has brought the club to this amazing standard, not to mention driving the minibus to get everyone there and back.”
