THIRTY members of Launceston Tennis Club spent an enjoyable evening at Trethorne on Friday, March 13, with the annual general meeting, meal, presentation of trophies and ten pin bowling.

Chair Helen Davies welcomed everyone, especially the new members, to the AGM.

Secretary Ashley Taylor reported that membership was slightly higher but that the club should still try to encourage new members to play tennis.

It was agreed to enter one ladies team and two men’s teams into the summer league with friendlies being arranged for the remaining members.

Treasurer, Adam Baker reported that in his first year the club had made a loss but fees for coaching courses and equipment purchased and reduced match fees has contributed to this. He suggested that subscriptions remained the same.

Club nights will remain as Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays with a family session being organised after Easter on Sundays from 5pm to 6pm. The adult and junior ‘pay and play’ sessions will continue also.

Following the meal, chair Helen presented the trophies which were as follows:

Men’s Singles — Winner: Henry Cornish; Runner-up: Graham Worth; Men’s Plate — Winner: Adrian Riddick; Men’s Doubles — Winners: Henry Cornish and Barry Frayn, Runners-up: Graham Worth and Tim Hambly; Mixed Doubles — Winners: Henry Cornish and Charlotte Halls; Runners-up: Adam Baker and Tonia Jones; Ladies Doubles — Winners: Hayley Frayn and Nicole Warring; Runners-up: Penny McMillan and Anne Pywell; Junior Singles — Winner: Charlotte Halls; Runner-up: Matthew Ryall; American winner: Charlotte Halls; Wimbledon winner: Adam Baker; Christmas winner: Adam Baker; James Brobin’s trophies: Davis Cup winner — Charlotte Halls; Most Improved Adult — Adam Cornish; Most Improved Junior — Finlay Worth.
