LAUNCESTON Ladies' Hockey Club thrashed Munnamead 2nds 8-1 at the weekend putting them in with a chance of a final promotion push as the season draws to a close.
The club is soon celebrating their 40th anniversary, having formed all those years ago by two teachers from Launceston college. Captain Vanessa Scott said: "We play because we love to play but we also have that competitive edge that is great in sports. We train on the muga pitch at Launceston College on Wednesdays 7.30-8.30pm from September to April.
"We are a small close knitt club who welcome new players of all abilities. Every year we hold a christmas social AGM and the end of season presentation evening. This year we have also held fundraisers and our sponsor Moorview Garage enabled us to get a great new kit and training kit to come.
"As a club we held a duck race in the summer at Cardinham. It was a very successful day with our players selling ducks for £1 with all sorts of prizes and a raffle and BBQ on the day."
