WESLEY Smith and Marcus Hodgson bowed out of amateur boxing on Saturday, May 9, with impressive wins over their respective opponents.
Both boxers, from Launceston Amateur Boxing Club, will now look to progress into the world of professional boxing and were wished 'the very best in their future professional careers' by the club.
Once again the Launceston public raised the roof for their beloved boxers who put on superb displays of skill, courage and determination in a 12 bout line up.
The first contest for the club involved Trystan Gwennap. age 12, making his Amateur debut in a skills bout against Devonports Kalyn Caulkett, also 12.
Trystan used his height and reach advantage to maximum effect to keep the very busy Plymouth boxer at arms length connecting with long range jabs and right hands. Trystan elected to box on the back foot throughout the contest and kept control of the contest to the final bell.
Next up for Launceston saw Luther Clayton, 13, making his second appearance in a boxing ring in another skills bout against Charlie Bacon, 12, from the Rough Diamonds club in Gloucester. Luther showed his development as a boxer by boxing on the front foot in the first round, then boxing on his back foot for the second round and mixed it up in the third round. Terrific skills and certainly one to watch out for in the future.
