ROSS Bowling Club opened its season with the men taking on the women in the annual curtain-raiser.

Playing across six rinks the women claimed victory by 11 shots.

To mark the opening of the green the first wood was delivered by president Mr John Perks who said his charity for 2015 would be St Michael's Hospice.

The money raised last year by the president's charity will be split between the local first responders team to buy a defibrillator and Heartstart who give training on how to respond if somebody has a heart attack.

The club is holding an open day at Crossfields on Sunday, May 24 starting at 11am and running through the day.

It will allow visitors to have a go at bowls, petanque or short mat.
