A group of ten very brave John Kyrle Gym members participated in the ten mile Black Mountain Challenge from Llantony on Saturday May 16th, a challenge that is designed to raise money for the Longtown Mountain rescue.

The team decided to take part in this event back in December, the idea was that it would be a fantastic goal, after all having a challenge in mind, keeps you motivated towards your fitness aspirations.

They started the walk at 8:30am, in the shadow of the mountains. The walk took participants up from Llantony Priory up to Bal-Mawr, which is a staggering 1991ft above sea level. Participants then walked along the ridge and eventually back down in to Capel-y-ffin. Following this they had to walk back along the Offas Dyke path, which to get onto was an extremely challenging climb (and crawl) of 2306 feet above sea level.
