After a very slow start in the light airs, Jane Anderson (Laser R) and Adam Hilton (Solo) led the fleet to the first mark at Home 1. But it wasn't long before Bob Sampson with crew James Pollard in their RS200 had their asymmetric spinnaker up and flying and grabbed the front position to Zebra and |inlet marks.

With overcast skies it looked like the wind would remain flat, but not long after the start little puffs started to cross the water and the back end of the fleet started to catch up as they all made their way across the lake to West mark, then up to Pinky before heading back down to the start line again for the 2nd lap.
