Upper Tamar Lake Sailing Club report — Sunday, September 4

Tamar Nine

THERE were more collisions in the first lap than the club had seen all year! Laser on Bosun, Bosun on Bosun, Enterprise on Bosun, all combinations seemed possible!

Inlet White was a particularly dangerous spot, having been turned into a hairpin bend by the nature of the course.

Jane Anderson (Laser Radial) had crossed the line first but been overtaken by James Pollard’s Full Laser within a couple of lengths. Then James’ Laser was seen with its mast over the side, drifting onto the lee shore with terminal damage to the hull.

Penny Abbott (Radial) followed Jane in second and third was Nathan Pollard’s Topper at the end of lap one but Roger Heasman with Raily and Orlando Graham from lap two onwards.

Brian Pollard (with Cilla Gilbert, Bosun) cruised up from eighth after one lap to fifth after two and fourth after three. By the end Elliot Pomeroy had got himself twenty seconds ahead of Nathan and was crowned top Topper with second place on handicap.

1. J Anderson (Laser); 2. E Pomeroy Topper); 3. N Pollard (Topper); 4. P Abbott (Laser Radial); 5. R Pomeroy (Topper); 6. R Heasman, R & O Graham (Bosun); 7. B Pollard, C Gilbert (Bosun); 8. A Hilton, J Dabbs, M Graham (Bosun); 9. J Weller, A Comber (Enterprise); 10. G Floyd (Solo)

Ladies/Junior/Gosling Cups

THE wind had steadied a little for the afternoon race and the course was modified to remove accident black spots! Jane Anderson took off and was never seen again, finishing seven minutes in front of Penny Abbott (both in Radials) to make it consecutive victories, the same as last week.

Adam Hilton (Solo) had been second for most of the race but capsized rounding Zebra on lap four.

Linda Spiller, who had crossed the line first, was the third Laser Radial at the end. The Bosuns of Toby Tobias and Roger Heasman had a ding-dong battle throughout, swapping the lead every lap, with Toby emerging victorious by three seconds! Nathan got his revenge on Eliot, that’s if beating him by five seconds can be called revenge!
