THE North Devon Table Tennis League gets underway on Tuesday, September 25 with all four Holsworthy teams in action at their Sutcombe Village Hall home.

Twenty teams have been split into two divisions instead of three with Post area interest lying with Holsworthy, who also now have a D team.

In a bid to even out the number of sides in each league, Division One will consist of ten teams instead of seven, although the number of fixtures — 18 — remains the same.

Three teams from the second-tier have moved up, including Holsworthy A, who will be once again captained by Dave Salisbury. He will be joined by son Owen and Helen Murgatroyd in their squad as well as new recruit Steve Cragg. They start with a home game against Balls Of Fury.

Holsworthy B’s Dave Streak managed to win all 66 of his matches in the second-tier but has left to join Division One side Nets And Edges.

The B team are once again captained by Barry Stearman with Gill Knightley, Jeremy Rickman and last year’s C team captain Doug Genini completing the line-up. They start with an ‘away’ game against the C team who will once again be represented by Sumiyo Berkeley, Alan Quilter and Rob Woodhouse plus new player Tim Orchard who plays for Budehaven in the North Cornwall League.

The new side, who will be known as Holsworthy D, will look to push for the league title with David Sillifant, Ashley Taylor, Nathan Jukes and Brandon Forsyth, who will make up Budehaven B in Division One of the North Cornwall League , playing regularly with Anthony Ward and Andrew Ward acting as reserves. They start with a home game against Chulmleigh Chiefs, who finished third bottom last term.
