North Devon Table Tennis League 2019/20 weekly round-up
HOLSWORTHY D dropped to the bottom of the table in Division One of the North Devon Table Tennis League after a 6-4 defeat to fellow strugglers Chulmleigh A at Sutcombe Village Hall.
Having won 9-1 in the reverse fixture back on the opening night in September, Holsworthy had lost their last eight fixtures, including three whitewashes.
That coupled with Chulmleigh’s 7-3 success at Blazing Paddles a week earlier meant Chulmleigh had moved to within a point.
Harry Collins and Gerald Luscombe beat Ashley Taylor and Nathan Jukes to put the visitors 2-0 up before David Sillifant pulled one back by defeating Jon Taylor.
Collins and Jon Taylor then extended their advantage before Sillifant fought back from 2-1 down to better Luscombe 12-10 in the decider and keep themselves in it at 4-2.
Jon Taylor secured a deserved double to make it 5-2, leaving the hosts needing to win all three.
Sillifant edged past Collins to secure a treble before Ashley Taylor picked up his first point of the night despite performing well all evening, to defeat Luscombe.
However the doubles was won in four ends by Chulmleigh, meaning they head into the Christmas break a point clear of the hosts.
Bridgerule’s clash with Holsworthy A on Friday night was postponed due to the visitors having just one player available.
In Division Two, Holsworthy B won the inter-club battle with the C team, 10-0.
The ‘visitors’ dropped just three ends all night as Barry Stearman, Doug Genini and Jeremy Rickman moved up to third, nine points off leaders Littleham who have played a game more.
