North Devon Table Tennis League 2019/20 — weekly round-up
ALL three Post area clubs in Division One of the North Devon Table Tennis League suffered defeats last week.
Title-chasing Bridgerule lost 6-4 at champions Misfits. The visiting trio of Steve Cragg, Peter Freeburn and David Streak all beat Peter Kneil in straight ends with Streak also getting the better of Keith Le Milliere.
However Martyn Beer was in inspired form, denying Streak a treble in the process.
Holsworthy A made the trip to Monkleigh Village Hall 24 hours later and lost 7-3 against Spin Doctors.
Mark Beaumont was narrowly defeated by Michael Sussex, who was undefeated all evening, in the opening match but went on to beat David Ewen and David Morgan, who proved too good for Dave Salisbury and son Owen.
Owen Salisbury did win the doubles with Beaumont.
Holsworthy D fell to the bottom of the table following a 9-1 loss at home to Smugglers at Sutcombe Village Hall.
Although Ashley Taylor put the hosts in front by beating Peter Hedge, that was as good as it got. David Sillifant threw away 2-0 leads against Martin Babulik, Matthew Thomas and Hedge.
In Division Two, Holsworthy B are five points off joint leaders Paddlers and Littleham as the season heads towards a dramatic conclusion.
With just 14 games as opposed to 18 in the top tier, Holsworthy have a game in-hand with Paddlers and Littleham having two remaining.
Holsworthy won 6-4 at fourth-placed Chulmleigh Chiefs despite a treble from David Gray.
However, Barry Stearman and Doug Genini both beat Joey Butt and Andrew Suliauskas as well taking the doubles point in the fifth end. Jill Knightley beat Suliausakas for the other point.
Holsworthy C put in a much-improved performance, losing 7-3 at home to mid-table West Buckland.
Shaun Collins was the star for the hosts, beating David Moore and Jason Prouse. Sumiyo Berkeley also defeated Prouse.
