North Devon Table Tennis League 2019/20 — weekly round-up

HOLSWORTHY A moved to within four points of fifth-placed Balls of Fury following a 7-3 over joint-bottom Chulmleigh A at Sutcombe Village Hall last Tuesday night (February 11).

The match started badly for the hosts as victories for Harry Collins (2) and Jonathan Taylor put Chulmleigh 3-1 up.

But from there, Dave Salisbury, Owen Salisbury and Sam Jennings roared into action, winning six straight matches. Each of them won twice with the Salisburys combining in the doubles.

Holsworthy D are level on points after losing by the same margin at champions Misfits.

After Ashley Taylor beat Peter Kneil to keep the visitors in it at 2-1, the hosts, led by the in-form Martyn Beer, made it 4-1 before David Sillifant beat Kneil in straight ends to keep the visitors interested at 4-2.

However the Monkleigh-based side pushed on to make it 6-2 before Sillifant fought back from 2-0 down to defeat Keith LeMilliere. Although Beer and LeMilliere claimed the doubles point, the visitors were happy with their night’s work.

The top-of-the-table clash between Bridgerule and leaders Smugglers, set for Valentine’s Day, was postponed.

With Division Two finished except any rearranged matches, Holsworthy C played their penultimate match of the campaign, losing 9-1 at Chulmleigh Chiefs. Sumiyo Berkeley outlasted Andrew Suliauskas for the Holsworthy point.
