THE coaching and competition programme at Launceston tennis club has seen a successful year in 2015, writes Head Coach James Brobin.

Participation and progress has been very pleasing. The final open event held in 2015 was at Bude Community College. The boys winner was Albert Shepherd from Bude who was pushed all the way by Launceston’s Joseph Tucker — the match was decided in a match play tiebreak.

The girls’ winner was Charlotte Halls from Launceston who has had a great 2015.

There will be a club presentation held in January and awards will be made from the 2015 club championships.

Coaches awards will include the junior tennis ladder winner, junior davis cup winners and junior davis cup leader board winner, island run winner and coaches most improved player to include an award for both junior and adult players.

As well as Launceston tennis club hosting many competitions all year round we have many internal events to give player’s of all ages and stages the opportunity to stay involved on a weekly basis.

Hopefully the win for team GB in the Davis Cup, making us world champions, will inspire those taking part and those that are not to take up the game at Launceston tennis club in 2016.

Andy Murray was made the BBC sports personality of the year in 2015 and what will that do for his confidence this year?

The first calendar grand slam for 2016 is the Australian open in January. Can Andy add the Australian open to the US open and Wimbledon grand slams career wins so far?

For me, a great player wins multiple titles and Andy is certainly on his way.
