OVER 30 members of Launceston Tennis Club celebrated their AGM and presentation evening at Trethorne on Saturday, February 24.

Chairman Helen Davies welcomed everyone and outgoing secretary Sarah Cooke gave a comprehensive report on the 2017 season, including social events such as skiing, fun club tournaments, and league and club competitions.

She was thanked by Helen for all her hard work for the club while president Mike Warne gave his apologies and decided to step down after many years of support.

The officers for the 2018 season were then elected and are as follows:

President: Chris Stanbury; Chairman: Helen Davies; Vice-chairman: Rod Wood; Secretary: Ashley Taylor; Assistant secretary: Jenny Worth; Treasurer (for the 30th year): Tim Hambly; Captains for the season: Graham Worth, Adam Baker,

Chris Stanbury, Hayley Frayn and Penny McMillan; Junior representatives: Charlotte Halls and Matthew Ryall; Committee members: Sarah Statton and Henry Cornish

The club’s new president, Chris Stanbury, who has played at the club since 1963, presented the trophies.

In the Summer League matches, the club entered three men’s teams and two ladies teams.

The ladies finished fourth in the Premier Division, only four points behind Hayle who finished second while The B team finished second in their division.

The men’s A team won Division One East, the B and C teams finished respectably in their divisions.

In the County Cup matches the A team won the Holman Division One trophy and the ladies won the Morton Nance Division Two trophy.

The evening concluded with a game of ten-pin bowling with Richard Worth and Horace Statton showing the youngsters how it was done!
