Home match v Looe — Monday, October 14

Launceston 3.5

Looe 2.5

THIS contest had originally been cancelled in August due to rain. So it was disappointing that the rain was still falling on the new fixture date.

However, the weather was good enough for play to go ahead this time and Launceston managed to emerge as winners.

The Looe team were a very friendly bunch and thoroughly enjoyed both the golf and the post match hospitality, a fine carvery being served by the club’s new caterers, Dave Mantle and Sally Callow. Nearest the pin prize (for the fifth time this season!) was won by Launceston low handicapper, Steve Hadfield. Since the first leg was won by Looe in August (4-2) the overall season score was a loss for Launceston (6.5-5.5).

Cornwall Bowl (round one) — Sunday, October 13

THE first of this winter’s county knockout competitions kicked off with the first-round of the Cornwall Bowl and Launceston looking to follow up last year’s final place against Trevose. The match was played at Bowood Golf Club near Camelford.

An early win for captain Paul Hicks and Peter Penhorwood set things off well and this was followed up with victories from Steve Greenaway and Ashley Rowland and Joe Dickinson and Chris James, which meant their place in the next round was guaranteed.

The other two pairings of Derek Basford and Ernie Best and Dan Sloman and Darren Chapman also played their parts with halved matches, for an overall 4-1 success.

Last of the Summer Wine — Sunday, October 13

With some regulars away playing in the Cornwall Bowl, one of the last competitions of the main golf season, a Texas Scramble, was won by Matt Sharman, Wayne Voden, Shane Iles and Gavin Wilkie with a score of 57.6.

Mark Garland, Steve Ham, Gareth and Mike Kendall were second with a score of 58.7 from Chris and Steve Turner, Jonathan Cude and Chris Newman on 59.7.
