Ladies County Championships — Thursday, April 11 to Sunday, April 14
THE week before last (April 11-14) saw many of the club’s ladies travelled to a windswept Perranporth Golf Club for the Ladies County Championships.
Some days apparently the course was barely playable in the wind and Perrnaporth is a very difficult course at the best of time, but in the wind even more so.
The format for the Ladies Championships sees the top 16 from the qualifier play the matchplay stages for the Championship itself and Launceston’s Jan Harrison made the top 16 before losing by one hole to Jan Sargeant.
The second 16 in the qualifier move forward the Plate competition and Cath Hopkins qualified for this stage and moved forward with wins over Dee Peake and Anna Sendall before losing in the semi-final to Dawn Emerson.
Meanwhile as a first-round loser in the Championships, Jan played in the Advanced Plate, beating Nova Causes-Wigan before losing on the same very windy semi-finals day to Victoria Pawley.
A club spokesperson said: “Well done Jan and Cath for doing so well in very difficult conditions.”
