Home match v St Austell — Friday, May 31

THE seniors entertained St Austell on Friday in an eagerly-anticipated return fixture looking to overturn a one-point deficit from the away match.  The contest was played in a friendly but competitive spirit, and the result was a ‘half’ on the day allowing St Austell a victory over the two legs.

Shot of the day however belonged to Launceston with Gavin Torbett leaving his ball just eight inches from the hole after his tee shot, thus winning the nearest the pin competition.

Away match v Looe — Tuesday, June 4

LAUNCESTON Seniors travelled to Looe, a parkland course situated at Bin Down. Unfortunately, this was one of the wettest, and dullest days in recent weeks, so the damp conditions took away some of the enjoyment of the day because Looe golf course normally enjoys great views over Looe Island and the English Channel, as well as uninterrupted views inland to Caradon Hill and Brentor.

However, the rain stopped and visibility improved as the day progressed, then both teams enjoyed a closely fought match, followed by an excellent meal.

Three of the games went to the final hole whilst the other three ended on the 17th with the final result ending 4-2 in Looe’s favour.

For Launceston, Robin Johnson claimed the nearest the pin prize with a fine shot on the par-3, 12th hole.

Ten-hole Stableford — Tuesday, June 4

DESPITE appalling weather conditions, two of the club’s long-standing members Joan and Neville Helme held a ten-hole stableford competition to celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary last week.

The golf was followed by a barbecue and drinks set up between the first tee and 10th green under a gazebo in the pouring rain, but all those who ventured out enjoyed the day.

Club secretary, Alan Creber, said: “Congratulations go to Joan and Neville on this marvellous achievement.”
