CORNWALL Golf Union held it’s general meeting at Lanhydrock Hotel and Golf Club last Thursday, and outgoing county captain Richard Simmons had some kind words to say about Bude and North Cornwall Golf Club’s Adam Curtis about his recent good news to further his career as a PGA pro.
Simmons paid tribute to his county team member, saying: “Given that he has now signed his papers to pursue a career as a PGA pro, I’m delighted for Adam Curtis that his final singles match in a Cornwall shirt. against Devon, saw him play 15 holes in seven under par to beat England ’A’ squad member Jake Burnage 4 and 3.
“Adam has been outstanding for Cornwall in the three years he has been in the side and, like Tom Fox before him, he’s a big loss to the county. But we wish him well.”
At the meeting, a new Cornwall Golf Union Captain was elected in David Kneebone.
After two years as vice Captain to Richard Simmons, Kneebone was elected to the role with Ian Veale (Tehidy Park) elected as his Vice Captain. On taking up his new post Kneebone said: "I have enjoyed every bit of the last two years and every minute of working with Richard. There was some great golf during that period and we had obvious success. This year too we have seen some very good golf and my aim with Ian will be to build on this and take us forward.
“If I can achieve anywhere near what Richard has done then I will be the proudest man in Cornwall.”
