Emily Cowling Fundraiser — Saturday, February 16
EMILY Cowling, daughter of club member Mark, is soon to go to Ghana as part of an educational trip.
In order to raise money for it, Emily asked if she could hold a competition day at the club and on Saturday a shotgun start competition was held with 34 teams of three playing.
Emily contacted local clubs for golf vouchers for prizes, local businesses to sponsor each hole on the course and there were also a large number of raffle prizes donated.
Best scores on the day for the men were from Derek Basford, Pete Davey and Ernie Best with a score of 50 points while the highest ladies score was from Avril Starling, Cath Hopkins and Suzanne Courtenay with a score of 47 points.
Reflecting on the day, Emily said: “In Ghana I will be taking on the role of teaching and multi sports as it’s something I have always been interested in, so it seemed a perfect opportunity to explore an interest. What a better way than in Africa!
“For me the trip is more about learning new things and opening myself up to once in a lifetime experiences, new cultures and developing my teaching skills for back here in the UK.
“With the sale of hole sponsorship, raffle tickets, chocolate bars and water I have raised £1,025. This is obviously excluding any entry fees. I would like to thank you for a wonderful day and all your support to get this event underway.”
The club will also donate over £700 from the entry fees to the Ghana trip.
