Medal — Thursday, March 7

LAST Thursday saw a tightly-fought competition with Carole Hutchinson winning the Silver Division by one shot from runner-up Liz Hicks.

Anita Ley won by four shots in the Bronze Division from Valerie Raine. Copper Division winner was Josie Whitfield.

Seniors Section

Stableford — Tuesday, Tuesday, March 5

THE Seniors played a Stableford last Tuesday, and despite difficult conditions, there was still some good scoring.

Division One

Winner: Keith Jasper — 41pts; Runner-up: Paul Hicks — 36pts; 3rd: Trevor Collins — 35pts

Division Two

Winner: Peter Wall — 37pts; Runner-up: Peter Holland — 36pts; 3rd: John Rumbold — 36pts

Division Three

Winner: Dan James — 36pts; Runner-up: John Dunn — 36pts; 3rd: David Napier — 31pts

There were only six twos from Brian Goble, Keith Jasper, Rolf Carroll, Paddy Collier, Graham Nevitte and Alan Parker.

Club results

St Piran’s competition and Cornwall v Rest of the World match — Saturday, March 9

AROUND a hundred players played on Saturday morning in a competition to celebrate the Cornish patron saint.

This was played as a three-person team competition with one score to count from three on each hole.

Men’s results

Winners: Peter Lyons, Phil Mitchell and Chris Knight — 48pts; Runners-up: Rob Loughran, Des Kelly and Alan Bessell — 45pts; 3rd: Geoff Francis, Alan Branch and Peter Penhorwood — 45pts; 4th: Gavin Wilkie, Paul Lumby and Brian Johns — 45pts

Chris Knight took delight in announcing that his team from Devon had won the day.

Ladies results

Winners: Barbara Murton, Sarah Ross and Wendy Briggs — 45pts; Runners-up: Cath Hopkins, Suzanne Courtenay and Avril Starling — 40pts

Nearest the pin prizes were won by Suzanne Courtenay and Vic Hill.

For the match between the Cornwall team and the Rest of the World, all the players were asked to record their individual scores and their ‘nationality’ and the total points for each side was divided by the number of players to calculate the average score.

In a very nailbiting finish to the day, the ‘home’ team were declared winners by an average of 28.6 points compared to 28.39.

The ‘captain’ for the Cornish team, Paul Hicks, led a triumphant chant of “Oggy, oggy, oggy!”
