NIKKI Welch of Liskeard Junior and Inclusive Badminton Club has returned victorious from The 4 Nations Para-Badminton English Championships held in Sheffield last weekend.
She won a gold medal in the ladies' doubles event and silver in the ladies' singles event.
This is a fantastic achievement for Nikki, who lives in Pensilva, and adds to her ever-growing collection of medals. She also achieved fourth place in the mixed doubles.
Liskeard Junior & Inclusive Badminton Club are thrilled for Nikki and say she deserves the wins due to the amount of time and commitment she gives to badminton.
Nikki has ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and a learning disability, but this does not deter her.
The club would like to thank Terry McCarthy, of Pensilva Stores, who has donated £200 to the club, which will go towards purchasing new equipment and club shirts.
East Cornwall Community Badminton Network has also secured a travel grant of £1,000 to assist players in the area with their travelling expenses, several of whom have travelled in excess of 2,000 miles around the country competing this season.
Thanks must also go to Liskeard Community College for their continued support of the primary-aged sessions run by the club.
Nikki has been assisting the club with coach development being part of extra group sessions to enable two of its coaches to work towards their Level 2 coaching certificates.
Thanks must go to Cornwall Sports Partnership for providing sports wheelchairs.
Steve Hillman, inclusion officer for Cornwall Sports Partnership, has visited the club twice over the last few weeks to undertake an inclusion course and coach development.
